History

Macleay College was established in 1989. Its board of directors is chaired by Executive Chairman Bill Sweeney and the Dean is Dr Raffaele Marcellino.

Macleay College is named after the Macleay family whose members first arrived in Sydney in 1826. Alexander Macleay was Colonial Secretary from 1826 to 1836. He and his sons and daughters were renowned for their scientific research into natural history, the establishment of one of the first schools for the children of convicts and the exploration of the Darling and Murray Rivers with Charles Sturt.
