Tell the stories that shape the way we see the world. By taking Macleay College’s Diploma of Journalism you could soon be working on television or radio, as a reporter on a newspaper or an editor on a magazine. And with new media evolving at a rapid rate, the opportunities for journalists in the online world appear limitless. This course is the most comprehensive of its kind in Australia and offers students practical, hands-on experience across all mediums: print, online, radio and television.

Be sent out on assignment and cover politics, courts, sporting events and a whole range stories that you’d expect to encounter as a journalist. At the completion of your course you’ll have an extensive portfolio of published articles, print layouts and designs, photographs, and audio and video tapes that can be presented to prospective employers.

In your final trimester, you’ll also complete an internship with a professional news or media organisation. Macleay College is also the only educational institution in NSW that offers shorthand, a prerequisite for a cadetship on metropolitan newspapers, as part of its journalism course.
