Krystle McGill

2UE, assistant producer

Krystle McGill is a Macleay College student who is going places. She has just landed her first paid job in radio, training as an assistant producer at 2UE and handling their Middawn weekend shifts – yet Krystle is still studying to finish her Diploma of Journalism at the end of this year.

Krystle's job at 2UE…

My job is to handle calls from listeners, provide updates to the announcers and generally help out with things, and also learn as much as I can. The line-up changes each week but programs I’ve worked on include the Two Murrays, Tim Webster and David Oldfield.

I got the job through sheer persistence. I had already done a few trials there after harassing them for months for an internship. I really pushed hard to get this position.

Previously I was doing an internship at 2SM, 2CCR and Eastside Radio doing weekend shifts from 2am-7am, with additional shifts during the week. I did a lot of production work behind the scenes, I even had my own cooking segment and reading out weather reports on the air. This job came about after a chance meeting with a 2SM producer and I kept chasing her for a try-out.

About Macleay College…

I enrolled at Macleay College for 2011, straight out of high school. I really liked how Macleay offers the journalism course in just one year, plus you can stay on for one more year and do a Bachelor of Arts degree. I don’t like wasting time and I didn’t want to do 3 years at uni.  Macleay College also offers the subjects that I love. It has radio and TV, plus shorthand. No one at uni has that opportunity, so it is a great benefit and was commented upon during my job interview.
