Tracy Alexander has packed a lot of life into her 26 years. She already has a degree in cognitive psychology and has worked around the world. Now she is studying a Diploma of Journalism as a mature-age student at Macleay College and has just landed an internship at 2UE.
Tracy's internship at 2UE…
My first contact with 2UE was through the news director, who gave me an opportunity to work and help out in the newsroom. Fortunately this developed into an internship – I have now been there 2 months and have been out on the road several times. My role is to get stories from press conferences and come back to the office, write them up and cut up the sound grabs, and then write several of the same stories with different angles.
Tracy's other work…
I knew I wanted to work in documentaries so I arranged a meeting with the former head of factual programming at the ABC. She offered me a role as an associate producer and now I am employed full time with her production company Tattooed Media. I am currently working as a junior producer and researcher on some documentary series for ABC and a feature film for SBS. I also have my own radio show for 2 hours each week at Bondi FM.
About Macleay College…
I have found the vocational teaching at Macleay College to be very hands on and supportive for journalism. I didn’t know how much this was benefiting me until I went out into the real world. 2UE was impressed that I could start working the moment I got there. I know how to use industry-standard software and I know shorthand already too, these are great assets to me.
