Two Qualifications in
One Year
Graduates of the Macleay College travel and tourism program now receive two
qualifications upon graduation:
(1) Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management
(2) Certificate III in Meetings and Events
Macleay has designed its industry-approved course so that it leads to the award of Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management after only one year of study. At many other institutions an advanced diploma can take either 18 months or two years. Students also qualify for a Certificate III in Meetings and Events, an industry recognised qualification that leads to jobs in coordinating meetings, conferences and events.

Quality of Education
The reason for Macleay’s success is the quality of education it
provides. The college was founded by educationalists whose philosophy is based
on small classes and individual attention. Macleay has better staff/student
ratios, better qualified lecturers, better computer and equipment ratios and
smaller classes than any educational institution in its field.
Macleay lecturers have tertiary qualifications and teach only in their own fields. A substantial number of staff lecture at the college while maintaining current positions at executive level in the industry. Macleay’s policy is that current professional practice is essential for tertiary educators to provide relevant, up-to-date skills and good contacts within industry.
High Level of Computer Skills
Macleay is one of a very few tertiary institutions still offering
a full year’s computer training in every course. Macleay has small classes
taught by fully qualified computer trainers. There is no self-teaching.
Our lecturers attend every class. Macleay graduates receive a separate
computer qualification and a statement of academic record provides full details
of every computer module completed.
Government Accreditation
The Macleay course is fully accredited by the New South Wales Government’s
Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board. Macleay qualifications
are recognised internationally, wherever Australian educational credentials
are recognised.
Location
Macleay College is located in Sydney’s central business district. It is in
high quality, air-conditioned offices at 175 Liverpool Street, overlooking
Hyde Park. It is next to Museum Railway Station and on the direct route of
buses from Circular Quay, Central Railway and the eastern suburbs.
Qualifications for Enrolment
Conditions of Enrolment
Enrolments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for
applicants who fulfil one of the above three criteria. There are a limited
number of places in Tourism so applicants are advised to enrol early. To apply
for enrolment, please follow the application procedure as outlined in the
Macleay College Handbook. Applicants will be notified by return mail
whether their application is successful. Enrolments from current Year 12 students
will be accepted on condition of their completion of the HSC.
Student Counselling
Part of Macleay’s educational philosophy is to provide personal
attention to students. Our student administrators are available to students
for consultation and advice on academic, social and personal issues. The course
co-ordinator of the Tourism course also counsels individual students about
their progress in the course and in their career decisions. Students are assisted
to prepare a personal resume and a professional portfolio that presents their
work in its best light.
Fees
Contact the college for all information regarding fees.
Three ways of paying fees:
Youth Allowance/Austudy
and Student Concessions
Students in the program are recognised by the Commonwealth Government as being
eligible for Youth Allowance/Austudy, provided they fulfil the normal conditions
that apply to the allowance.
Full details regardng student concessions are outlined in the Macleay College Handbook.
