Intern of the Week

Name: Andrew Wilkinson

Internship: Unearth-ED

What course are you studying?

Marketing specialising in Events Management, part-time.

Has there been a 'best part' of the course so far?

I have enjoyed most the hands on experience in the events industry. From planning, learning, and actually being able to get right into the core of the event.

Where is your internship placement?

I'm actually working for Unearth-ED, which is an education events company based in Caringbah. I work on events, social media marketing, and as a booking consultant. I get to play with Facebook and Instagram during my work week!

What are some of the experiences you've had?

I go on work trips with my manager to help build strong relationships with suppliers and our clients. We travel all over Australia, and it's good to get out of the office. It also gives you a strong bond with clients - that counts for a lot when your dealing with 40+schools a year and handling a company's Facebook and Instagram.

What's a few key things you've learnt?

I've learnt so much with both Unearth-Ed and Macleay - I find it very relevant to my working life.

What's it helped you decide (career wise)?

It's helped me work out what areas of Events I enjoy more, and what I enjoy less. I also find the lectures at Macleay aid in your decision because you're learning from a teacher that has actually worked in the field you want to. This way you can learn from their experiences to see if that's something you want to do.

What are goals for the future?

One day I would like to have my own app based company that supplies event manuals to people wanting to plan an event. For now I'm happy where I am! It kind of is a dream job really - I'm playing on Facebook, travelling, and my colleagues are amazing. Plus I get to plan fun excursions for schools, something I remember doing when I was back at school!

Since completing his internship, Andrew has been offered a paid role with Unearth-ED! Congratulations Andrew.
