Macleay launches new Digital Media specialisations

Digital media is how we communicate with each other and our appetite for content has become insatiable. Businesses are increasingly using social media, apps and online video to connect with their customers. Along with this rapidly growing demand comes a need for skilled professionals to design, produce and create digital media content. To support you in developing these skills, Macleay has rolled out the next phase of our popular Digital Media courses. 

Former General Manager of Colloquial, Zeina Khodr and their current head of social, Craig Mack helped develop the new content writing specialisation at Macleay.

Crazy for content

Industry professionals helped develop the new content writing specialisation. Former general manager of Colloquial (JWT), Zeina Khodr explains: “The challenge we were facing when hiring new content writers, was that copywriters were too persuasive in their style of writing for lightly branded digital content. Graduate journalists – although having excellent research and writing skills – did not know how to write for an audience.” The CONTENT WRITING specialisation will have you ready to hit the ground running from day 1 in a content agency. 

Explosive job growth for UX Design

If you’re keen to work in a growing industry, you’ll be interested to know that CNN Money reports “10-year job growth for User Experience Designers is expected to jump 18 per cent”. With this in mind, Macleay engaged UX expert Sam Court (formerly of The White Agency) as part of an industry advisory panel to develop our in-depth USER EXPERIENCE unit.

Video is king

There’s been an astronomical rise in the demand for video content. reports that “every second, a million minutes of video content will cross global IP networks by 2021”. Macleay’s new CONTENT CREATION specialisation, led by video content producer Cisco Corea, trains you to produce digital photo and video content for websites, video and social media platforms, Apps and beyond. You’ll learn technical know-how, alongside strategic problem-solving and collaborative team skills.

If you’re into Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, why not carve a career out of what you love? Macleay alumnus Callam Hanks, who made Poncho the Pug famous on social media and is now social and content manager at Infinity Squared helped develop our DIGITAL & SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING specialisation. He advocated for students establishing a blog as part of the course. “If students have a successful social media platform or blog themselves, employers are more likely to employ them based on their skills in using social media over the qualifications they have.”

Building on the growing reputation of our Business course in Entrepreneurship, you can now access enterprise innovation units to develop your expertise as a business owner or start-up in the digital space through the DIGITAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP specialisation. 

Crack the code

In the CODING & ANALYTICS stream, you’ll learn to collect, mine and harvest data (through web, desktop and App interfaces), and the skills to interpret this as critical insights for strategic planning. You’ll be in demand as a data analyst for specialist digital media businesses. 

Only need one unit?

Individual units, such as DIGITAL DESIGN, DESIGN THINKING and USER EXPERIENCE are available as Professional Development Short Courses.
