Macleay College has launched its Student Success program in Sydney.
Macleay College has launched a Student Success program for its Sydney campus. Spearheaded by Senior Business lecturer Dr Manny Aston, the project is gearing into action thanks to a dedicated team of staff.
"Study should not cause stress and learning should be enjoyable," says Manny, whose vibrant overalls are a splash of colour in the library on Level One. "My goal is to have our students learn successfully in a happy and productive environment."
The Student Success program promotes wellbeing in all aspects of college life. There are many services on offer, ranging from academic advice and professional development to international support and counselling.

Ethics lecturer Lynelle Scott-Aiken offers pastoral care and is available to speak with students in Room 1.07 each Wednesday from 9:30 am until 2:00 pm and on Fridays from 9:30 am until 12:00 pm.
"Any challenge that affects a student's ability to flourish at college is a good reason to come and chat," says Lynelle, smiling. "Being able to ask for support and implement change is a strength we can all cultivate!"
Friendly Accounting lecturer Ilja Nastjuk is available to assist students in the library on Mondays between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm and Wednesdays from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. "I provide support for accounting and numeracy-based subjects," Ilja says. "I also help students to set-up and structure their reports and to improve their study and organisational skills.
Indeed, a broad scope of academic support is available on campus. Library Resources Manager Margaret Lindhout is on hand on every Monday and Thursday to help with study, referencing and research skills.
Dr Manny Aston is available to chat in the library every Tuesday between 8:30 am until 7:00 pm.
On Tuesdays, Dr Manny Aston – who boasts six tertiary qualifications – is available for academic advice and time management tips. Manny also provides personal and professional development. Students are welcome to come to the library between 8:30 am and 7:00 pm, armed with their cover letters and CVs.
Macleay regulars will have stumbled across International Student Co-ordinator Russel Lewis in the Student Zone. Russel can be found in front of Room 107 Monday to Friday. As a former international student, he knows first-hand the challenges of studying abroad.
"I'm the first point of contact for international student services including study support, part-time work advice and SRC information," says Russel. "I'm a good listener, so come by and say 'hi' - we can have a great chat!"
International Student Co-ordinator Russel Lewis is available to help outside Room 107.
Upstairs on Level Two, the gracious Gabriela Di Natal – a registered psychologist – is available by appointment on Wednesdays between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. Gabriela offers counselling, psychological advice and student support.
"There are times in our life we feel things are getting a bit too much. We might have already tried different things, but nothing has made a difference," explains Gabriela. "Maybe it's time to do something about it! I assist students in managing their mental health and wellbeing, change behaviours and thought patterns and improve the quality of their life."
