Meet Precious Siziba

Precious Siziba
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS (MARKETING)
2017

After completing the Bachelor of Business specialising in Marketing, Precious landed a role at Houzz as a Sales Development Representative.
We invited her back to find out why she chose Macleay and what she’s up to now.

Grad Photos-precious.pngTell us a bit about yourself
I am a Graduate of the Bachelor of Business specialising in Marketing and I studied at the Sydney campus. A few months after my final exams I found myself working alongside a graduate recruitment agency which lead to me landing a great position at Houzz. Houzz is the world’s leading platform for home design (it really is, no one does what Houzz does). Luckily they were looking for someone they could mould and teach as much as possible to about the business and the industry which was exactly what I was after!

What are your aspirations?
There are way too many to list but I'll choose three:

  1. Own a few businesses - including buying and flipping houses. As stressful as it can be, it’s definitely something I see myself doing for the rest of my life.
  2. Open my own modelling agency for people of colour! There is not enough diversity in the industry!
  3. Actually go on a safari the next time I visit my home country.

Why did you choose the course?
I didn't know exactly what I wanted to so for a career. I ended up selecting the course based on what I knew would suit me best. It was important for me to have relationships with my classmates and lecturers, an intimate class environment, I wanted to learn from lecturers that work within their relative industries, and to have internship opportunities to help build my skill set!

Where did you intern during your studies?
I accepted two internships within the same week, one was at Cosmopolitan Magazine (an opportunity I got through a lecturer) and the other was at Showpo. I rounded up my minimum requirements at Cosmopolitan and stayed at Showpo 11 months. I assisted with photoshoots, styling, buying, merchandising and eventually managing various social media accounts. I am still in contact with the girls at Showpo and couldn’t be happier to see how successfully Jane has built her business.

Professionally, what are you up to now?
Within less the a year of being at Houzz I landed a new role within the same industry as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator.  It’s only been a week and I’m already in the middle of rebranding our business - I couldn’t be happier!
