Name: German Hernandez
Course: Bachelor of Advertising & Media
What is your career goal?
I would like to work on TV commercials, especially in the post production area.
Why did you choose to study in Australia?
I wanted to improve my English and considered the UK, but my stepsister living there advised limited working opportunities for international students. New Zealand was a little too quiet but after some more research, Australia both had the working opportunities and the busy life I was looking for.
How did you find out about Macleay College?
I did my own research on Google about good advertising courses which led me to Macleay College. I enrolled into the diploma and have now progressed into the Bachelor of Advertising and Media.
What is your impression of the course so far?
It’s really good and always with a practical approach. The teachers are always helpful making sure we are on top of everything. My lecturers are working in the industry which is important to me.
What has been your favourite part of the course?
I had to create a TV commercial that involved writing the script, casting, filming and editing. Macleay College also provided real budgets for our team to work with – just like in the real world.
Do you find it easy to be in an Australian learning environment?
The classes are small and mostly made of Australian students. The first trimester is always a little challenging but after a while you get used to it.
Any advice to other international students?
International students have to enjoy themselves and enter with the right mindset. Value the education you are investing in and make many friends!
Have you done your internship? If so, where did you go?
Yes, I did an internship at Blue Pie Records, one of Australia’s leading independent music distributors. I was lucky to be able to do a lot of things. I enjoyed being part of the social media team, creating and managing Bluepie’s many accounts such as DJ Central and Metal Central.
