Are you ready to change your career? If so, congratulations – by clicking on this blog post you’ve just taken the first step. Well done you!
There are many reasons why changing careers can feel like a heavy situation, but we prefer to call these reasons ‘myths’ – and just like the lab-coated mad scientists from the hit television series, today we’re going to bust them for the soul-sapping, life-sucking myths that they are!
1. “It’s too late to change”
It’s too late to change a lot of things - your DNA, your first boyfriend or girlfriend, your Christmas party kiss that everyone found about and your habit of eating ice-cream in your underwear on a hot day. But, if the thought of changing careers leaves you only with the feeling that you need to change your underwear, fear not. According to research from the Department of Education, Science and Training, most Australians change careers seven times throughout their lifetime! These are grand days we’re living in. The barriers that stopped our parents and grandparents from chasing their dreams and choosing their careers have been lifted. There is literally nothing stopping you from enrolling in any course in any field that you desire! Are you sure ‘it’s too late to change’ or are you refusing to change?
2. “I wouldn’t know where to start”
If you’re going to build a house, you need to lay a brick. Start by going online and researching institutions that offer degrees in your chosen field. Think about what type of education, skills and experience you’ll need to make a successful transition to a new career, and find the match that suits your needs. Secondly, speak to people who work in your future industry. How did they get there? What pathways did they take? What would they recommend as the best way for you to get started on your new career path? Macleay College provides full-time career advisors who are more than happy to answer any questions you have about changing careers and help point you in the right direction. All you need to do is make the call!
3. “Where will I find the time?”
Between working, taking selfies, updating Facebook, sleeping off hangovers, walking the dog and eating ice-cream in your underwear on a hot day (just admit you do it so I don’t feel alone here), we are all SO busy with our lives that we couldn’t possibly have time for anything else. But let me ask you a question – How much time do you invest in yourself? – And no I don’t mean hitting the gym or doing yoga. How much time do you devote to creating YOUR future? Surely you have a little bit of time to devote to that? If you do, or think you might, Macleay College offers both full-time and part-time options to complete your study. Full-time students are required to complete only three days per week and a part-time student will be required to complete just one and a half days per week. That’s a small investment in a big future.
4. “Is making a change worth it?”
In truth, only you can answer this question. Confucius once said – “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I don’t know about you, but Confucius seemed like a pretty intelligent guy. Chances are, if you’ve read this far then you’re already seriously considering changing careers and hopefully we’ve encouraged you to do so. If you’re looking for a short-term change for a long-term goal, then Macleay College could be your answer. After all, you’ve already taken the first step!
