Tell us a bit about yourself
I graduated from Macleay College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Business Management, specialising in Event Management. I moved to Sydney to complete my degree then returned to Canberra to commence full-time work.
What are your aspirations?
I aspire to be a successful event manager working overseas leading and organising large-scale international events.
Why did you choose the course?
Event Management at Macleay College appealed to me because I had always been a planner whether it be for a holiday or an event. It didn’t take me long to realise Macleay was where I was meant to study after speaking with the College and being so inspired by their student’s stories. I loved the idea of being able to have a great one-on-one relationship with my teachers and peers due to the small class sizes. I found Macleay to be a fantastic option compared to the other Universities offering similar courses because it was a fast track private college with a wonderful reputation, endless opportunities and industry experts mentoring students.
What was the Macleay experience like?
I had an exceptional experience with the internship program whist studying. Macleay have great connections with successful well-known organisations that provide Macleay students with high-quality industry experience. I was lucky enough to intern with Business Chicks and Event Planet. Both of these organisations provided me with great insight into the industry and a wonderful experience working in events. These internships being so readily available encouraged me to take on new challenges that I would have been less inclined to without Macleay offering these opportunities.
Professionally, what are you up to now?
I am currently working as the Events Administrator at the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) based in their Canberra office. The Events team organises a range of events including conferences, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, gala dinners and cocktail functions. One of the biggest highlights I have experienced at ACN is being part of the organising team for ACN’s signature annual conference, a large three-day conference with over 500 delegates.
