Tell me a bit about yourself?I was a professional Rugby player for nearly six years – it was a huge part of my life. I had to retire after an injury and moved to Sydney shortly after. I am currently studying a Diploma of Business Management specialising in Entrepreneurship at Macleay. My aim is to learn the entrepreneurial skills needed to one day open my own business.
Why did you choose to come to Australia?
Australia always appealed to me. I have siblings that live in Sydney and they knew it was a place that I would really enjoy. When my Rugby career was cut short, I decided I wanted to do some travelling and because I also had some friends in Sydney, I decided to start there.
What is about Sydney do you like?
I like that there are so many outdoor activities to do in Sydney. I am an active person and love being outdoors. Exploring all the amazing beaches and scenery that Sydney has to offer has been hugely enjoyable.
Why did you choose to study at Macleay?
I decided to study at Macleay because of the small, interactive classes. In Dublin, I was in college for a period of time, but I find that the personal approach that Macleay offers is a better fit for me.
What has your learning experience been like so far?
So far my learning experience has been great – everything that I wished it would be. Going to class and being a part of the discussions between the brilliant lecturers and students has been really interesting and enjoyable. The positive style of teaching has kept me really interested.
I love that my classes fall on three days each week. This gives me time to work, socialise and explore Sydney. It’s great that the college offers a good study/life balance, it means that the days you are in college you are really focused and interested in what’s being taught.
What advice would you give a student considering coming to Sydney and studying at Macleay?
I would say that if you are looking for a college that offers fantastic learning and teaching methods, as well as a great study/life balance then Macleay College is a perfect fit for you. The lectures are always interesting and there is an emphasis on group discussions which makes getting to know your classmates easy.
When compared to larger colleges, Macleay’s personalised approach to teaching has been far more enjoyable for me – even doing presentations feels easy because you’re presenting to a group of friends rather than a big classroom full of strangers.
