Chris Hewson is the Advertising & Media Internship and Course Coordinator for the Melbourne Advertising Program. He has over 14 years experience teaching both advertising and communications in a variety of programs and courses throughout Melbourne.
He is an experienced art director, copywriter and communications specialist with over 15 years’ advertising experience. With a strong background in large brand advertising, he has worked for a number of prominent advertising agencies, including Magnum Opus, Adcorp Australia, JWT and The Ad Shop.
These days Chris is the director of his own creative thinking company, Really Creative Studio, which provides design, creative thinking and advertising services to corporate clients.
Give us a quick run down on your background?
I have worked in advertising for over 14 years and have lectured at Universities, TAFE's and private colleges delivering advertising units to advertising students.
How did you get into the industry?
I got into the advertising industry via my Graphic Design course and my AWARD school certificate that provided me with the skills and knowledge to enter the industry. I started off in a small agency and worked my way up towards the position of creative Director.
What is the biggest difference in the industry since you were at university?
Digital + online!!
What do you do when you are not teaching?
Look after my recently born baby!
What do you enjoy about teaching at Macleay?
Small student numbers and the sense of engagement that we have with students as a result of these classes
