Give us a quick rundown on your background?
After graduating from Macleay College in 1996, I essentially grew up in adland. Working my way from a media assistant sending my bosses faxes for her to being a part of Australia’s first ever Media Strategy agency, and almost 17 years working hard in the role of Marketing Director of Disney Theatrical Production for Australia and New Zealand. After a much needed break, I have returned to media agency life in a Director capacity at Bohemia overseeing clients communications plans with a team of 6 people. A young vibrant agency on the up.
How did you get into the industry?
As a 16 year our school we were asked to dance at the Saatchi and Saatchi Xmas Party! Yes I went to the infamous party as a 16 year old. We got a tour of the agency and we met the guy who created the Toyota Chicken! Having just won the school music competition for remembering the most jingles in ads, it was destiny. I was hooked.
What is the biggest difference in the industry since you were at university?
Ooh this is a big question. Technology. It has not only changed the level of accountability in the industry, but fundamentally changed how consumers take in messages. It’s harder than ever to get your message across in a compelling and relevant way.
What do you do when you are not teaching?
I’m a surf boat coach and lifesaver at Coogee Surf Club. I’ve held many positions on an executive level within the club but being a coach or ‘sweep’ in surf boats is what I enjoy the most. I am currently the only female sweep in Australia on a competitive level.
And the true love in my life is my French bulldog Bruce!
