Give us a quick run down on your background?
I have an Education background academically predominantly, along with some PR, and adult training. I taught for around 7 years in the primary school system before leaving to pursue life in the 'real world' and business. I fell into Media accidentally whilst on my exploration and have spent 20 years in the industry on the commercial side, across radio and magazines predominantly. In recent times, I had the opportunity to teach at Macleay and leapt at the opportunity! This is my third year at Macleay and due to my current work in the well-being media space and my interest in this subject, I am taking on the Positive Psychology unit this year at Macleay.
How did you get into the industry?
Accidentally actually. I applied for a sales role at a radio station and that was it! Back then, you didn't need a degree to work in media sales!
What is the biggest difference in the industry since you were at university?
The courses today are so diverse compared to my day at uni. With the digital era, access to education is just so broad now, which gives students options of topic and study methods. Learning is just so more creative today and the learning environments a lot friendlier and supportive.
What do you do when you are not teaching?
I teach sessionally so I work in media. I enjoy exercise, bike riding, study, family and friends, as well as a bit of travel.
What do you enjoy about teaching at Macleay?
I love the community of Macleay and small class sizes. Students have a more relaxed learning environment and relationship building with the teachers, their subjects and colleagues. Everyone I work with at Macleay is a joy and the talent amongst staff extraordinary.
What subjects do you teach at Macleay?
Positive Psychology, and Advertising & Media
